The Challenge:
- Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women in Cameroon, with over 4,000 new cases and nearly 2,000 deaths annually (Globocan 2020).
- Most cases are diagnosed at advanced stages (III–IV), when treatment is more costly, less effective, and survival rates drop dramatically.
- In Africa, more than 70% of breast cancer patients present late, contributing to 90,000 annual deaths (IARC).
- In Cameroon’s conflict-affected English-speaking regions, nearly 1 in 5 health facilities are closed (MSF, OCHA 2023), leaving thousands without access to basic health services, let alone cancer care.
