Breast Surgery
At JRM Medical Center - Cancer Light Network, we are committed to providing our patients with the most advanced and compassionate care for breast cancer. Our team of skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals are dedicated to offering a range of breast surgery options tailored to each patient's unique needs. Here, we outline the different types of breast surgery we perform, each designed to address specific conditions and treatment goals.
1. Lumpectomy
- A minimally invasive procedure to remove a lump or tumor and a small margin of surrounding tissue.
- Commonly used for early-stage cancers and non-cancerous growths.
2. Mastectomy
- Involves the removal of all breast tissue, from simple mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, to a total mastectomy.
- May be recommended for larger tumors or when breast conservation is not an option.
3. Breast-Conserving Surgery (Oncoplastic Surgery)
- An approach that aims to remove the tumor while preserving most of the breast tissue.
- Involves specialized techniques to reshape and reconstruct the remaining breast.
4. Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy
- A procedure to identify if cancer has spread to the lymph nodes.
- Involves removing the first (sentinel) lymph node(s) to test for cancer cells.
5. Reconstructive Surgery (Breast Reconstruction)
- Performed immediately after mastectomy or at a later date to restore the shape and appearance of the breast.
- Can involve the use of implants, tissue flaps, or a combination of both.
6. Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy
- A mastectomy that spares the nipple and areola, potentially allowing for its inclusion in breast reconstruction.
7. Axillary Lymph Node Dissection
- Removal of lymph nodes under the arm to assess if cancer has spread beyond the sentinel nodes.
