Jd - Clinic Congenital Heart Center treats pediatric patients with minimally invasive thoracoscopic and robotic surgery
Pioneers of advanced surgical techniques for minors
The center has assembled a team of professionals to provide high-quality follow-up and treatment for congenital heart disease patients at all stages of life to ensure the stability of their adult lives. The establishment of such a specialized comprehensive center with a lateral vision is a guarantee to improve the quality of care for these patients.
The centre has two clinics, one at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital and the other at the Clinic Hospital, which together offer a complete and complementary portfolio of services, with a team of 23 specialists in cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, paediatrics and anesthesiology.
One of the important values of SJD-Clinic is to promote the use of advanced surgical techniques - minimally invasive thoracoscopic and robotic surgery - in the juvenile population. Compared with open surgery, minimally invasive surgery has the advantages of less pain, faster recovery, shorter operation time and faster postoperative recovery. Although the use of minimally invasive techniques in adult heart surgery is already common, it is still in the early stages of development in the treatment of children with congenital heart disease.
Three cases of thoracoscopic surgery in minors
By making small incisions in the child's chest, a device with a camera is introduced into the surgical area. Tiny medical cameras project the situation inside the chest onto a large display screen, and the surgical field of view can be enlarged as needed, revealing tiny structures that are clearer and more flexible than when viewed directly with the naked eye. The youngest of the three patients is only six years old.
